To address food waste and food insecurity in California, the State passed SB 1383 in 2016 to reduce emissions of climate pollutants. This requires businesses to donate surplus edible food to food recovery organizations instead of composting or disposing of it. However, there are currently no products or services available that meet all of the SB 1383 requirements, and food recovery organizations face limited manpower. StoHunX's product, equipped with RFID technology, pressure sensors, and temperature control, streamlines the food recovery process and helps food generators reduce their carbon footprint while also diverting food to those in need. No company exists that offers a physical location to store donated waste that can seamlessly log data and notify food recovery organizations. By obtaining funding from competitions and grants, the goal is to offer StoHunX for free to encourage even small food generators to donate their surplus food. Our initial target market would be local and state governments as the capital investment required to purchase refrigerators and hire our services is high.
